Today, Google is changing that and now considering those links internal links.
So when I link from forums.seroundtable.com to www.seroundtable.com, that is no longer a link from an external domain, it is a link from an internal domain.

Google explained:

Most people think of example.com and www.example.com as the same site these days, so we're changing it such that now, if you add either example.com or www.example.com as a site, links from both the www and non-www versions of the domain will be categorized as internal links. We've also extended this idea to include other subdomains, since many people who own a domain also own its subdomains-so links from cats.example.com or pets.example.com will also be categorized as internal links for www.example.com.
Here is the table they used to explain it:

Links for www.google.com

External links

Internal links

Previously categorized as...

www.example.com/
www.example.org/stuff.html
scholar.google.com/
sketchup.google.com/
google.com/

www.google.com/
www.google.com/stuff.html
www.google.com/support/webmasters/

Now categorized as...

www.example.com/
www.example.org/stuff.html

scholar.google.com/
sketchup.google.com/
google.com/
www.google.com/
www.google.com/stuff.html
www.google.com/support/webmasters/

So does this impact how Google treats links from subdomains in their link algorithm? I think so. Hubpages played on it and said it helped with Panda.
Does this mean that Google will list less of your subdomains in the search results as individual results? Well, yea - they have already with the new mega sitelinks, which interestingly doesn't apply for a search for [google].
In any event, keep note of this significant change, not only to the reports within Google Webmaster Tools but to how it defines the search results, linking algorithms and so on.
Forum discussion at WebmasterWorld.

Expanded "Like" Button Functionality

According to the WSJ report, "Facebook is also working on expanding its 'Like' button to include other gestures that marketers and third-party developers can create, said these people. Consumers could share information about the products they want to buy or the places they want to go, for instance."

While we don't know exactly what this will entail, simply giving consumers more ways to share your brand/products could be huge for businesses, particularly in combination with an unfiltered News Feed, which should by itself get your brand in front of more eyeballs automatically.

As it stands right now, there are things you have to take into consideration if you want to optimize for the News Feed, and "EdgeRank," which is the basis for Facebook's news feed algorithm. Earlier this year, we looked at a report from Buddy Media, a company that's built a business out of creating Facebook tools for businesses and counts a bunch of major brands among its clients. They suggested the following ten tips for boosting your chances of getting seen in the news feed:

1. Ask questions
2. Post games and trivia
3. Interact with fan engagement
4. Incorporate wall sapplets (polls, coupons, etc.)
5. Incorporate relevant photos
6. Relate to current events
7. Incorporate videos
8. Post content for time-sensitive campaigns
9. Include links within posts
10. Many services do this kind of personalization. Just this week, AOL launched a new iPad Magazine, which is based on serving personalized content for each user. Google and Facebook are two of the most dominant sources of information, however. While Google hopes to play a bigger role in how we see information from our friends, brands, and those we're influenced by on the social level, that role currently belongs to Facebook as the world's dominant social network. It's how the majority of social Internet users engage with content this way.

Eli Pariser, who coined the term "Filter Bubble" gave a popular TED Talk a while back discussing the concept in which he quoted Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg as saying, "A squirrel dying in front of your house may be more relevant to your interests right now than people dying in Africa."

This would appear to be the philosophy behind the Facebook News Feed as it currently exists. You may "like" CNN, who might be running a story about people dying in Africa, but you might miss that if Facebook's algorithm determines that you'd be more interested in seeing the bit about the squirrel from one of your neighbors.

The point is, you're not seeing everything. What makes it more interesting is that the more Pages you "like" which should theoretically give you access to more information from sources you care about, the more information you're going to miss, because all of these pages are competing with one another for that spot in your News Feed that you actually see.

Granted, Facebook's strategy makes sense in some ways, because too much information is simply just too hard to consume, and it's highly likely that you'll miss some of it anyway, just because it will get pushed further down. But wouldn't it be nice to have a completely unfiltered option? A way to see every single update from every single friend and Page you've associated yourself with on Facebook?

Remember - you're the one that chose to become friends with these people or "like" these pages. You control that.

Well, it appears Facebook may be readying a new News Feed that will give us this unfiltered look at our social graph. A new report from the Wall Street Journal indicates that Facebook is going to be changing the way the News Feed works sometime soon.

Shayndi Raice And Emily Steel report: "Now Facebook engineers are working to create an unfiltered News Feed that would open the floodgates of information about users and the games they win, the companies they 'Like' and the actions their friends take, said people familiar with the matter."

I'm going to assume that such a version of the feed would be one option for viewing the feed. As it stands now, Facebook gives you options like Top News, Most Recent, Status Updates, Photos, Links, Pages, Questions, and of course various lists you may have set up yourself. It gives you plenty of ways to filter the News Feed, but not so much a way to get a completely unfiltered version. Most Recent is the closest thing, but even that isn't 100% unfiltered.

It will be interesting to see if Google opens up an unfiltered version of the Google+ stream. Google's "circles" only add to the filter bubble concept, for the reasons we discussed here. People will be more inclined to share with select groups of people, leaving those outside of the circles potentially missing out on interesting content. Google even filters the streams for specific Circles too though. You don't see every update from everyone in every Circle.

Resource - WebProNews.com

The ultimate goal of off-site SEO

The ultimate goal of off-site SEO is to build a good online reputation by creating links to the website. Many people still believe this is just about creating as many links as possible. But the search engines have become more sophisticated and SEO has followed suit. Link building is now focused on relevance, the page rank of the site from which the link has come, the type of link and the text associated with the link (anchor text). So, yes, you need a substantial number of links, but the quality of each link is more important than overall quantity.

SEO - Is It All You Need?

It is unlikely that there is a single small business out there striving for online success which is not taking SEO (Search Engine Optimization) seriously and with very good reason. It is a business SEO strategy that will determine how quickly a website achieves a high ranking in the search engines, how well it maintains its ranking and ultimately how many visitors it receives.

Search Engine Optimization, in its simplest form, is the process whereby a website has its pages fine-tuned to appeal to the search engines for a certain set of keywords or search terms and builds up a good online reputation by gaining links to the site from other reputable and related websites.

Optimizing the pages of the website is often referred to as on-site SEO and involves creating Titles, Descriptions, Headings, Bold Text, Alternative Text for Images and, of course, the main textual content to include primary and secondary keywords. The keywords must constitute a proportion (or density) that the search engines consider appropriate but not so much that the site will be penalized for over-use of the keywords (sometimes referred to as keyword-stuffing). The keyword density in the various elements of a webpage is not a pre-defined percentage because rankings are always determined in relation to the competition. But a good SEO consultant will be able to advise on the appropriate keyword density for a particular set of targeted keywords.

Visit more information - http://www.sitepronews.com/2011/08/03/seo-is-it-all-you-need/

What is an intermediate sales page?

When you're posting content on the internet, whether it's on these Web 2.0 sites or your own website, it needs to have a purpose. If I'm promoting Traffic Travis, for instance, I might write an article on link building. By itself that article isn't going to do anything, I need to build a purpose into that article and tell them that they should check out Traffic Travis, and give them a link to click through to my Traffic Travis review (my pre-sell page). My article is now an intermediate sales page.

Whatever you do, don't ever just put an affiliate link to a product in your sidebar and think that you're promoting the product. Always create a pre-sell page, or a review, or something that pre-qualifies the traffic.

MARK: Make sure you use at least half the words in your PPC ad in your landing page, and preferably use ALL the words in the headline of your PPC ad. Google makes sure that your website is relevant to your ad, and while there are some human reviewers, a lot of it is based on algorithms. And if you don't want your PPC landing pages appearing in the search engines, put "noindex, nofollow" in the metatags. (You can also block spiders in the robots.txt — Jason)

JASON: Another point about PPC pages, while we're on the topic. Make sure that your landing pages go up on a good quality site with at least 20 good articles accessible from the homepage. You don't need to link to them from your landing page, but Google will spider the homepage and check if it's a good quality site. If there are relevant keywords in there you're unlikely to be Googleslapped. What I do is work on building the perfect PPC landing page, and then take that and modify it from a SEO perspective. Your PPC landing page is unlikely to be a good fit for SEO because it won't tie in with the content. SEO requires lots of content, while PPC doesn't need as much. You can pretty much duplicate your PPC landing pages and modify them slightly for each keyword you target, but with SEO all your content needs to be unique to rank well. With SEO what I would do is have all my unique content point to a pre-sell page, so the content is unique and can rank well, but you still get that call to action from the pre-sell.

Using Wordpress.com in your Web 2.0 strategies

Be very very careful with Wordpress.com. (Note that this is different to Wordpress.org. Wordpress.com allows you to host a blog on their servers, while wordpress.org gives you the software to host your own blog on your own server.) They're very wary of anything that smells like it has commercial interests. If you're wanting a blog to promote products, don't use Wordpress.com. Go to somewhere like Blogger or Pulse.Yahoo. That said, Wordpress.com is still very popular. It has a huge fanbase, a huge Alexa ranking, and gets indexed very quickly. But you should never put a salesy call to action into a Wordpress.com blog — say things like "to continue reading about this, click here" or something non-salesy like that.

Choosing Web 2.0 sites to use

Don't get too hung up on which sites to use. Evolving web technologies allow people to get more involved with websites — gone are the days when all you could do on the internet is read content - now you can watch videos, play games, join communities, take polls, vote on content, post comments, etc. We've gone from being talked at to being talked with.

From an internet marketing perspective, this is great. There are a huge number of web 2.0 sites out there, all begging people to get involved with them. What this means is that getting backlinks to your site is no problem whatsoever anymore. In the past you had to worry about contacting other website owners, sending out hundreds of emails, arranging reciprocal links.... these days you don't have to worry about that. There are hundreds of resources out there that will put your link onto authority sites that the search engines just love. What's better — as you add new content to these sites the search engines are extremely quick to jump on it, so you get traffic from both people AND the search engines.

Finding Profitable Keywords

Before getting into the web 2.0 strategies, it's really important that you realize that one of the biggest lessons I've learned when it comes to researching your keywords is to not be deceived by what the keyword research tools are telling you.

Often what we think is that we need to look for keywords with low competition, but for me that's a huge mistake. One of the most powerful things you can do when looking for keywords, traffic and markets is to look at where the money is going.

Now, a lot of people will hear that and say, "Oh yeah, we know that," but people still do it. They jump on WordTracker or another one of those big-name keyword research tools, they find terms that seem really popular, they build an affiliate site and (even if they're getting traffic) they might get no sales whatsoever because there's no money in those search terms or in that market.

What I recommend is that you look at the pay-per-click model. I'm not saying you need to use pay-per-click, just look at where the money is going. With PPC you know that people won't spend money on keywords that don't earn money: after a few weeks they'll drop the poorly performing keyword.

The difference is that you're not looking at words that are simply popular searches, but words that are profitable. That is, they translate into sales, signups, or whatever measure you're looking at.

If I were to choose between building ten pages based around keywords where I know the traffic converts or building 100 pages around popular keywords where I'm not sure if the traffic converts, I'm going to go with the keywords that convert. Even though you might get less traffic, the traffic you do get ends up making you more money.

So how do you find these profitable keywords?
The strategy I teach my clients is this: For any website you have two kinds of keywords: Product-specific keywords and all the rest.

Product-specific keywords are words that are obviously related to a particular product. If we were promoting Traffic Travis, for instance, product-specific keywords would include "Traffic Travis", "Traffic Travis review" and so forth. With these words you know that the person searching on them is interested in the product. Traffic might be low, but the conversions are just fantastic.

So what I tell my students is to focus on attracting traffic that is searching on these highly-converting product specific keywords, and then try spying on advertisers in the same market who are bidding on PPC to see what words they're bidding on.

read more information - http://www.traffictravis.com/newsletters/0493

Build strong relationships with industry leaders

Bloggers have a lot of power. Popular and well-respected bloggers have even more. Their blog could be reaching thousands of people every day, so what they say has a very far-reaching effect. No smart blogger is going to align themselves with a company that has a bad reputation, doesn't deliver on their promises, sells low-quality products or dismisses the concerns of their customers. Having that blogger on your side means you have their unspoken endorsement. It also means that you have a strong support network should online trolls start attacking your company. Having a community of industry leaders rally to your side is a great way to defend your online reputation.

<img width='1' height='1' The popularity of this service is one of the main reasons behind the smartphone's dominance of the mobile communications market.
On-the-go Web access is also proving to be one of the most sought-after conveniences of Web users today.

The mobile-friendly versions of popular social media sites and search engines have long enjoyed high visitor traffic. Blogs and business websites are starting to benefit from the trend, acknowledging how the population of mobile Web users can significantly change site traffic and possibly contribute to revenue. Many SEO experts recognize the quickly-rising percentage of users who access the Web through their mobile phones.

Basic mobile SEO
Mobile SEO Keywords
The Future of Mobile SEO
Investing in mobile SEO

Read more information - http://www.sitepronews.com/2011/03/11/seo-for-mobile-websites-a-spn-exclusive-article/

The New (and Ancient) Social Network

The Social Network (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray]You’re punished! Go to your room!!

For those of us who grew up during the Leave-It-To-Beaver or Brady-Bunch generations, these words resonate as an all-too familiar admonishment for the wrong doings of Theodore Cleaver,
Jan Brady, and millions of other kids in America. It was the common penalty for the common misdeeds of the day. And being banished to the lonely solitude of one’s bedroom, isolated from one’s friends and family, was a powerful and effective consequence. Yet for today’s youth, being sent to one’s room would be met with no more than a shrug of the shoulders. In fact, most kids would probably be confused by their parents’ punishment choice of sentencing them to the most comfortable,
pleasurable, and socially connected place in their entire world – their own bedrooms.

By now it’s cliché to state that today’s youth is the most socially connected and culturally aware generation in mankind’s history. The statistics bear out what we already intuitively know: these kids are wired in. Over 85% of teens have their own cell phones. Even for kids between ages 10 and 14, cell phone ownership exceeds two-thirds. Three-quarters of kids between the ages of 8 and 18 have TV’s in their rooms, and the rate of bedroom TV’s for kids under 12 is 55%, and growing fast. As for computers, we know that (at least) one-third of kids have their own desk-tops or laptops with Internet access. And that doesn’t count the “smart phones,” or “X-Box Live” systems (where you can merrily engage in simulated mortal warfare with a fellow teenager somewhere in, say, Europe).

Now, lest you think this article is about to offer some preachy lecture on poor parenting skills in the modern cyber era, let me reassure you, it’s not. After all, that would be a fantastic hypocrisy for someone like me since there may be no greater example of the trend towards electronic overkill than the bedrooms of my very own three teenage sons. In fact, our kids’ digital excesses are so daunting that I’m less worried about the common concerns of cyber bullying, lack of sleep and sedentary lifestyle issues than I am about merely entering their rooms without becoming entangled and electrocuted. To be honest, the last time I saw such overburdened electrical outlets was in Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation.

Read more information - http://www.sitepronews.com/2011/03/10/the-new-and-ancient-social-network/

Google Finally Cracks Down on Content Farms

Google used their Official Google Blog to announce a change to their search algorithm that impacts 11.8% of their queries. Google explains:

"This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on."

Google's announcement is a followup to what Matt Cutts stated in his blog just over a month ago:

"And we’re evaluating multiple changes that should help drive spam levels even lower, including one change that primarily affects sites that copy others’ content and sites with low levels of original content. We’ll continue to explore ways to reduce spam, including new ways for users to give more explicit feedback about spammy and low-quality sites.

As “pure webspam” has decreased over time, attention has shifted instead to “content farms,” which are sites with shallow or low-quality content. In 2010, we launched two major algorithmic changes focused on low-quality sites. Nonetheless, we hear the feedback from the web loud and clear: people are asking for even stronger action on content farms and sites that consist primarily of spammy or low-quality content."

Learn more information - http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2011/02/25/google-finally-cracks-down-on-content-farms

How to Monetize Your Web Content

Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions for webmasters has to be: How do I monetize my web pages? How do I earn revenue from my online content?

As a full time online marketer and webmaster, this is a question I have considered many times and found my own answers through many years of trial and error. Of course, I have taken the passive route in my quest for that online income. This means instead of producing my own products, I market and promote affiliate goods and services. I do no direct selling on any of my websites. I collect no money and I don't even have a payment program or system in place.

All my income and commissions come from referring traffic or clients to the affiliate companies which I promote. Totally passive.

These companies do all the selling, delivery of products, customer support, everything... I just get a small percentage for having referred that customer or client. This passive method has worked extremely well for me but keep in mind, selling your products and services will be much more lucrative since you will receive the majority of the income instead of just a small commission or referral fee.

However, if you're like me and want a more "hands-off," passive income from your web content, here are some of the things I have learned over the years. You might find some of these tips helpful in your monetization. I have placed these tips in the form of a "q and a" format...

Learn more information - http://www.sitepronews.com/2011/02/24/how-to-monetize-your-web-content/

Ten Reasons Why Good Link Builders Fail

A good website builder knows that solid links mean solid rankings, but it's an ever changing challenge to get them. Learn how to avoid a loss of link juice now.

Links are incredibly important in getting relevant traffic and good position in search results, but links are like any other relationship... they can go sour. Here's a list of ten reasons why otherwise knowledgeable link builders blow their efforts. Pay attention and don't fall into any of these traps. As a website builder you have got to get this part right or you are heading for disaster.

1. One Hit Wonder

The worse thing that can happen to websites that stumble onto a source of links or who only rely on one method of building links is for that accident or that plan to actually work. That sounds counter intuitive, but if you convince yourself that only one method is needed, you're heading for a fall. You need to diversify your efforts and not have all your eggs in one basket.

2. Quantity Not Quality

The link builder who writes an article, spins it and then uses article submission software can easily develop 1,000 links to a web page in no time at all. The only problem is those links will be worth next to nothing. Building links is not just a numbers game. Links gain their value from the value of their source. A single link from a PR 4 is worth 1,000 links from PR 0 websites.

3. Forgetting that the Webmaster is a Human

Email requests for a link that are addressed to "Dear Webmaster" are the first to be deleted. If you want to pitch a website for a backlink take the time to find a name to address the request to.

4. Staying Strictly Digital

If you are an expert in your field don't be afraid to tell the world... face to face. Volunteer for speaking engagements for your professional organization or even your local chamber. The story on their website will inevitably carry a link to yours.

5. Reliance on Black Hat

Black hat tactics will work. Time after time somebody has found a way to manipulate the system and anyone who has used it has experienced short term success. But the success is short term and sometimes comes with penalties that get your web pages de-indexed. Black hat isn't worth the loss of listing.

6. Failure to Keep Up with the Industry

Link building, like so many aspects of internet marketing is constantly changing. Don't allow yourself to get complacent. Don't rely on a strategy that could become ineffective tomorrow. Take an interest in the industry and stay current.

7. No Support Network

This is a real risk for the small business website in more ways than one. You're not working in a big SEO shop and you can't stroll over to a colleague and bounce an idea off them. Try to develop a network of talented website builders that you can call on for help and be ready to help them when they call you.

8. Loss of Creative Spark

There's more than one way to skin this link cat. Keep your mind open to creative ways to get other quality websites to link to yours. Doing something that is newsworthy for your industry is a sure way to get relevant links back.

9. Building the Perfect Link that Doesn't Get Implemented

Action and consistency are more important than perfection. If you're one of those people who are afraid to click on the submit button because you think your link request isn't absolutely perfect, then just get over it. Live wild and click that button. An imperfect link request has more value in building relationships than a perfect request that isn't ever sent.

10. Becoming Lazy

OK you could change lazy with complacent, but it's the same thing. Link building is a tough skill and not nearly as much fun as website design or even creating content. If you have built a few successful links don't count on those being around forever. Continue your efforts and you'll continue to enjoy quality traffic.

Link building is a task that every website builder has to have at least a working knowledge of. If you see yourself slipping into one of these ten common symptoms of link trouble, snap yourself out of it and double up on the building efforts. The leads and conversions that you gain from the relevant links are your reward for diligently performing this important function.

Resource - http://www.sitepronews.com/2011/02/27/ten-reasons-why-good-link-builders-fail/

Is Blogging Really in Danger Because of Social Networks?

This idea that blogs are dying has been around practically as long as either Facebook or Twitter, and it almost always gets dismissed as a ridiculous notion.

Wordpress founding developer Matt Mullenweg took some issue with the piece: "The title was probably written by an editor, not the author, because as soon as the article gets past the two token teenagers who tumble and Facebook instead of blogging, the stats show all the major blogging services growing — even Blogger whose global 'unique visitors rose 9 percent, to 323 million,' meaning it grew about 6 Foursquares last year alone. What do you know a lot about? What is the point to your website? After all, the goal of any article marketing campaign is to place articles of value out into the world and grow your number of back links (links that point back to your website from another website.)
Google and other popular search engines/directories see these links leading into your website as proof you must be something of an authority.

Translation: On the Internet, you are somebody important if other people say you are. It's like high school all over again! Yeah!

Step 2: Write the Article

To begin marketing with articles, you must write the articles. No kidding. Sure, there is some work involved here, but the rewards can be great as qualified traffic to your website increases. Yes, I'm aware there are certain sources for pre-written articles on a myriad of topics, however I would recommend against putting your name on other people's work. Call me paranoid, but here are some possible dangers with this:

1. Loss of credibility and damage to your reputation when it's discovered you're not writing your material,
2. Being called upon to discuss a topic you barely considered to begin with, and
3. Being accountable for someone else's errors if they pop up.

Remember: One of the greatest things about writing is the fact you're building an asset when you write. You are building a piece of reproducible and shareable knowledge. This is what "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" author, Rob Kiyosaki, refers to as "doing it once and replicating it over and over."

To write an article, you don't have to be a Harvard literature graduate, but you should know how to complete a thought, hold a one-way conversation with a person, and use spellcheck.

* First, know what your goal is for your article. What is your point? Being clear on this will help keep you on track as you craft your introduction, body and conclusion.

* Next, pretend you are relaying this information to a friend. What would you say? How would you counsel them if they came to you seeking this advice?

* Finally, use spellcheck. Proofread, proofread, proofread. Read the article aloud to test for smooth flow and phrasing. Ferret out all typos, grammatical errors and punctuation gaffs. If missed, these mistakes can detract from your writing and credibility.

Social Media - Part 2

Here are some Facebook SEO tactics:

• Don't stop the posting. Many times companies have felt excited about reaching fans via Facebook Web promotion,
but find that the excitement dwindles after a month or two. Keep on posting --- send out daily posts, and write about interesting things regarding your business, services, and products. These posts can encourage conversation, likes, and comments. Besides, if all your status messages are all about your products and services, your page will lean to the spammy.

• Give away free stuff. Almost everybody loves free stuff. Start a contest or provide coupon codes with enticing value to encourage fans to participate in your social media SEO campaign. If you get fans excited, they just might tell their family or friends and blog about it. This Facebook Web promotion tactic can result in more links pointing to your main site.

• Don't hesitate to ask for a link. It doesn't hurt to request, or even beg, for a link. Once you have a minimum of 25 fans, post an update and ask your fans to post a link pointing to your site on their blog. So, the challenge here is how to use social media SEO to your business' advantage.
Social Media SEO It's not so hard to advertise via Facebook Web promotion. FB and other social networks allow you to post ads, updates, pictures and videos in a snap. When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), on the other hand, there is some doubt whether Facebook SEO is really effective. For one, this particular social media site uses the "nofollow" tag. This means that your backlinks from Facebook aren't given any value by search engine crawlers. Thus, those links aren't affecting your search engine rankings at all (but they will still give you traffic). Facebook links may be nofollow, but this doesn't mean that the website completely doesn't have social media SEO opportunities.

How Social Media has Changed SEO

Social media websites have spread like wildfire over the past couple of years. Today, people spend more time on Facebook, Twitter or other social network sites than on any other type of website.

Aside from connecting people, social networks also provide advertising opportunities. Take Facebook, for example. What do you do when you come across a website with half a billion active users? SEO links that have higher value provide greater optimization benefits compared to low quality links. There are several factors that can determine the quality of website links. These are:

• The reputation and trustworthiness of the domain giving the website links. For instance, a link from cnn.com would have higher value compared to a link from a website that ranks lower in the Alexa rank checker.

• How relevant the anchor text is to the link. This means that an anchor text saying "fish tank" would be far more relevant and valuable than a "click here" anchor text.

• The link's location within the site structure. For obvious reasons, SEO links embedded on a site's homepage is more beneficial than a link that comes from a deeply hidden page.

• The link's visibility on a webpage. It also matters where the inbound link is located on a webpage. Website links at the top of a webpage are more visible than those at the bottom.

• Similarly, a link that's one of three on a page is more valuable than a link that's one of 80.

Now that you have an idea of how website links are given value, the question is: How do you get high quality links? The tips below will explain different methods of effective search engine optimization link building.

SEO Link Building with Blog and RSS Feeds

Promoting your site via blogs and RSS feeds is an easy and great way to boost your site's exposure and SEO link building opportunities. But what do you do with it to give it maximum exposure?

Syndicate it. Syndication means sharing it to as many other websites as possible.

Here's a few quick tips of whats possible.

- Submit your articles to as many article directories as possible.

- Submit the videos you created to as many video sharing sites as possible.

- Submit your podcasts to as many podcasting sites as possible.

- Join two to three related articles together and create a pdf and submit to pdf websites

- Look at the articles you've created and take the main points out of them, to create more in depth articles on each point.

- Take those new articles and start creating more videos and other media.

That all sounds like a lot of work, but there are many websites that can do the hard work automatically for you. Pixelpipe and Traffic Geyser are good places to start looking.

Bear in mind that some article directories will not accept articles if they've been submitted elsewhere, so you may have to rewite some articles. But you're doing that anyway when you break your content into more in depth articles.

Always remember the more places your website content appears on the more likely it is to be discovered and therefore gain you exposure and traffic to your website.

Should Demand Media's SEO'd content be demoted in search results?

Dear Google: First and foremost, my letter to you is not personal. I am a big fan of yours and always have been. You have the best search engine in the World, better than Bing. You have the best web email service. Your Google Docs product is amazing. Don't even get me started on Google Earth or Google Maps, just unbelievable products. Your analytics product is excellent. Everybody loves Android. All you do is create and create and still give it all away for free. Your Adwords business model is even shared with other businesses so they too can make lots of money.

Obviously, you are a great company and despite what some believe, you are not evil. You are great for America and an asset to the World, in my opinion.

However, when you stated the other day that you are taking steps to make sure web pages from content farms don't show up prominently in your search results it follows that you Google believe that content farmers and web spammers are bad for the Web, or at least your search engine. You said it was feedback from your users that convinced you to go after these bad content makers. So Google, if they are bad (evil?) or simply not good for the Internet then why Google are they still your partners?

It begs the question, if you are serious about making articles from content farms show up less in your top search results why don't you just do it already?

Here's what I suggest:

Step 1: Define what a content farm is. By the way, please also define what web spam is. I mean very specifically so that everyone knows what is and isn't web spam. I think I understand what you are referring to, but I am not sure. I guess examples of sites that fit the various definitions of content farms, web spam and 'mostly duplicate content' ... would be helpful. I would then suggest that you threaten them ... again. That way the bad guys who are scared of you might just leave our Internet for a different one. Or, maybe they will change their behavior and start creating content that is not so bad. Right.... (sarcastic tone intended).

Best Reading - http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2011/01/22/google-are-you-really-serious-about-removing-web-spam

How to Use Directory Links for Website Promotion

If you have just launched your site, it will receive immediate visits from search engine spiders along with the indexing and listing that results from these visits. You can wait an awful long time for a search engine listing unless you use some way of providing a short-cut for search engines such as Google to discover your site. However, because an article or link directory is visited frequently by search engines, directory links will lead them straight to your web pages.

Unless the link directory or article directory uses the 'nofollow' attribute you will get a share of the Google PageRank of the web page on which your website or article is published. Some directories use the 'nofollow' attribute that prevents you getting that PR share, so avoid these if you can, although many provide the straight link for a fee. The benefits of the link are usually worth the money.

Another reason for website promotíon using directory links from a website or an article directory is that visitors to such directories will click on your link. With link directories, the link is the URL anchor link in the listing itself, while in article marketing, the link to your site comes from a URL you place within a section known as the author's resource box that usually appears after the main text of the article.

Writing articles is a particularly useful method of website promotion because you use anchor text for your links, regarded by Google as offering a better way of optimizing the article than just a straight URL. The anchor text should relate either to the theme of the article or of the web page you are promoting.

While website directories generally publish the URL of your domain, an article can be published in an article directory with the URL of any page in your website you want to promote. Links deep into your website such as these provide significant advantages in promoting your entire site in the search engines rather than just the Home Page.

How do you use directory links to promote your website? What are the mechanics? The procedure is really quite simple, and we'll discuss it here, first with link directories and then with article directories.

Resource information - SiteProNews.com

Getting the Link Train Rolling – Finding Links, Building Links, Growing Links and Monitoring Links over Time.

The key to any website doing well with search engines is Links, Links, Links! However you lay out your Organic SEO strategy for a project, it always comes back to links. Different types, which ones are best, who has which ones, how to find them, how to get them and how to target the anchor copy within them to your best advantage. Keeping to a natural pattern, whatever that is? I’m really not sure about this one, people are always going on about it, don’t gather links too quickly or you may get penalized and so on….

Listen, there is no perfect formula to follow, building links is hard work, you are never going to achieve the exponential growth that is going to put your website on the Google’s radar and get you penalized for unnatural rapid link growth. This status is reserved for the Pros, Black-Hats and Spammers. Just go for it, full speed ahead! You’re going to find it hard work and demoralizing but when you get a breakthrough and get a good quality link it spurs you on to keep going. Outsource it to India or the Philippines I hear them call; you can if you want, but you need to be in full control of your website’s destiny.

So, back to the wedding world online and more importantly how did I get Rik Pennington into Google’s Top Ten? I like to approach SEO bottom up for this type of business – Local, Regional, National and then International if needed.

The first thing for Rik was to get him listed in his Locale; he initially wanted to operate in the London borough of Greenwich. This is pretty easy to achieve in most industry sectors, no real research is needed. All you need is a handful or two of locally targeted reciprocal links, a few listings in locally focused business and government directories, post in local forums with the required anchored link text and in 4-6 weeks and hey presto you’re No.1 in Google for ‘Keyword Phrase + Local Location’ (e.g. Wedding Photographer Greenwich). Easy as that! Of course there are on page factors to address but we will look at those next week.

Once basic locality listings have been achieved, the focus switches to regional domination of Google’s Top Ten Listings – in this case Wedding Photographer London (Rik Pennington holds No.2 on Google.co.uk). Even though the focus has now changed, it is always in my mind’s eye when starting a project (Local, Regional and National). It’s important not to forget about your local success, be mindful and sympathetic towards your local achievements and protect them, throwing them the odd link and Blog mention to maintain your dominance at that level. When your focus changes up a level, tweaks to titles and on page copy can influence listings already gained. So you need to employ forward thinking and always remember to look over your shoulder. Multi-tasking is must!

Rik was No.1 for Wedding photographer London but has dropped a place to No.2; a good example of losing positions gained when the focus changes up a level to national/generic. It’s not easy juggling SEO eggs for the same webpage. I should have it back soon when I get round to addressing it. Ok, regional level SEO is a fair bit harder to achieve and you need stronger knowledge of SEO and well developed link building skills. We need to up our link strategy and start bring out some of the big guns to play. There are many types of links out and they all can affect your Google PageRank and online authority.

Visit more information - http://www.sitepronews.com/category/articles/se-optimization/

Multiple domains

If you have several topics that could each support their own website, it might be worth having multiple domains. For others, it’s all about graphical design, writing fancy code or even affiliate programs. All of those answers correct, but the essence of internet marketing is much simpler.

At its core, internet marketing is about these things:

* Understanding the target market to which the product/service/cause you’re marketing will appeal
* Determining exactly how your target market interacts with the internet
* Positioning your content on the internet to attract the attention of your target market
* Collecting information about your target market (also known as “leads”) for follow-up and conversion into sales
* Design of offers or incentives to induce the desired actions from your leads

Since there is insufficient space in this article to give all of these topics adequate attention, let’s focus on just one specific topic with the realm of internet marketing: Email Marketing.

My best payoff has always come by focusing on permission-based email marketing. Permission-based email marketing refers to the practice of collecting information (including email addresses) from website visitors and communicating with them via e-mail with their direct consent. Love

Everyone loves a good tip, right? Here are 55 quick tips for search engine optimization that even your mother could use to get cooking. Well, not my mother, but you get my point. Most folks with some web design and beginner SEO knowledge should be able to take these to the bank without any problem.

1. If you absolutely MUST use Java script drop down menus, image maps or image links, be sure to put text links somewhere on the page for the spiders to follow.

2. Content is king, so be sure to have good, well-written and unique content that will focus on your primary keyword or keyword phrase.

3. If content is king, then links are queen. Build a network of quality backlinks using your keyword phrase as the link. Remember, if there is no good, logical reason for that site to link to you, you don’t want the link.

4. Don’t be obsessed with PageRank. It is just one isty bitsy part of the ranking algorithm. A site with lower PR can actually outrank one with a higher PR.

5. Be sure you have a unique, keyword focused Title tag on every page of your site. And, if you MUST have the name of your company in it, put it at the end. Unless you are a major brand name that is a household name, your business name will probably get few searches.

6. Fresh content can help improve your rankings. Add new, useful content to your pages on a regular basis. Content freshness adds relevancy to your site in the eyes of the search engines.

7. Be sure links to your site and within your site use your keyword phrase. In other words, if your target is “blue widgets” then link to “blue widgets” instead of a “Click here” link.

8. Focus on search phrases, not single keywords, and put your location in your text (“our Palm Springs store” not “our store”) to help you get found in local searches.

9. Don’t design your web site without considering SEO. Make sure your web designer understands your expectations for organic SEO. Doing a retrofit on your shiny new Flash-based site after it is built won’t cut it. Spiders can crawl text, not Flash or images.

10. Use keywords and keyword phrases appropriately in text links, image ALT attributes and even your domain name.

11. Check for canonicalization issues – www and non-www domains. Decide which you want to use and 301 redirect the other to it. In other words, if http://www.domain.com is your preference, then http://domain.com should redirect to it.

12. Check the link to your home page throughout your site. Is index.html appended to your domain name? If so, you’re splitting your links. Outside links go to http://www.domain.com and internal links go to http://www.domain.com/index.html.

Ditch the index.html or default.php or whatever the page is and always link back to your domain.

13. Frames, Flash and AJAX all share a common problem – you can’t link to a single page. It’s either all or nothing. Don’t use Frames at all and use Flash and AJAX sparingly for best SEO results.

14. Your URL file extension doesn’t matter. You can use .html, .htm, .asp, .php, etc. and it won’t make a difference as far as your SEO is concerned.

15. Got a new web site you want spidered? Submitting through Google’s regular submission form can take weeks. The quickest way to get your site spidered is by getting a link to it through another quality site.

16. If your site content doesn’t change often, your site needs a blog because search spiders like fresh text. Blog at least three time a week with good, fresh content to feed those little crawlers.

17. When link building, think quality, not quantity. One single, good, authoritative link can do a lot more for you than a dozen poor quality links, which can actually hurt you.

18. Search engines want natural language content. Don’t try to stuff your text with keywords. It won’t work. Search engines look at how many times a term is in your content and if it is abnormally high, will count this against you rather than for you.

19. Not only should your links use keyword anchor text, but the text around the links should also be related to your keywords. In other words, surround the link with descriptive text.

20. If you are on a shared server, do a blacklist check to be sure you’re not on a proxy with a spammer or banned site. Their negative notoriety could affect your own rankings.

21. Be aware that by using services that block domain ownership information when you register a domain, Google might see you as a potential spammer.

22. When optimizing your blog posts, optimize your post title tag independently from your blog title.

23. The bottom line in SEO is Text, Links, Popularity and Reputation.

24. Make sure your site is easy to use. This can influence your link building ability and popularity and, thus, your ranking.

25. Give link love, Get link love. Don’t be stingy with linking out. That will encourage others to link to you.

26. Search engines like unique content that is also quality content. There can be a difference between unique content and quality content. Make sure your content is both.

27. If you absolutely MUST have your main page as a splash page that is all Flash or one big image, place text and navigation links below the fold.

28. Some of your most valuable links might not appear in web sites at all but be in the form of e-mail communications such as newletters and zines.

29. You get NOTHING from paid links except a few clicks unless the links are embedded in body text and NOT obvious sponsored links.

30. Links from .edu domains are given nice weight by the search engines. Run a search for possible non-profit .edu sites that are looking for sponsors.

31. Give them something to talk about. Linkbaiting is simply good content.

32. Give each page a focus on a single keyword phrase. Don’t try to optimize the page for several keywords at once.

33. SEO is useless if you have a weak or non-existent call to action. Make sure your call to action is clear and present.

34. SEO is not a one-shot process. The search landscape changes daily, so expect to work on your optimization daily.

35. Cater to influential bloggers and authority sites who might link to you, your images, videos, podcasts, etc. or ask to reprint your content.

36. Get the owner or CEO blogging. It’s priceless! CEO influence on a blog is incredible as this is the VOICE of the company. Response from the owner to reader comments will cause your credibility to skyrocket!

37. Optimize the text in your RSS feed just like you should with your posts and web pages. Use descriptive, keyword rich text in your title and description.

38. Use captions with your images. As with newspaper photos, place keyword rich captions with your images.

39. Pay attention to the context surrounding your images. Images can rank based on text that surrounds them on the page. Pay attention to keyword text, headings, etc.

40. You’re better off letting your site pages be found naturally by the crawler. Good global navigation and linking will serve you much better than relying only on an XML Sitemap.

More Information

Google PageRank: How Much Have Things Changed?

One area of SEO that is limited to one search engine but gets plenty of attention is Google PageRank. This overrides the default of "nofollow" that the blog comes setup as. If the blog has this plugin installed and activated, you will get a backlink to your website when you make a comment on that site. (Most blog owners aren't aware that this may be a reason they don't get as many comments on their articles as they could.)

There is software that I use that finds blogs that have the "dofollow" plugin installed. I look for them and I am more inclined to comment on those blogs because it gets me a backlink.

Search for a blog submitter. It is the software that you use to help find those blogs. Most blog submitters are free too. All you do is type in keywords that refer to your website and it will find blogs that have similar keywords.
<img width='1' height='1' back over the 3 years that SEO has been researched, discussed and practiced, it's difficult to find any significant period of time when it wasn't changing.

Before Google came onto the search scene around the turn of the millennium, the search engines at the time were ranking websites based primarily on the sheer volume and density of keywords on the page. So ranking for "blue widgets" meant little more than finding ways to stuff those two words into every inch of your page possible while still maintaining at least the semblance of a user experience. The result was a plethora of webmasters who found creative ways to stuff keywords into every corner of their sites. Then Google changed the game.
With PageRank, Google introduced a new way of evaluating the relative authority of a website or page - links. PageRank, to put it in simple terms, provided a link map of the web. The more links pointing to a site or page, the more power or authority that page took on. And the anchor text of a link, the words that occur as clickable text, offered a clue as to what the linked-to page was all about. As Google garnered more market share, links became more valuable on the web. A whole new form of webspam was born - free-for-all links and link selling schemes. Google has yet to find an effective way to completely crack down on these tactics, but in the 3rd quarter of 2007 they took some signficant steps including directly penalizing specific websites which were believed to be selling links for SEO benefits and relieving "free-for-all" directories of their power to pass PageRank altogether.

There should be no question that more big changes are coming in SEO - only a question of "what next - and how do I prepare for it?" Here's what's next: Personalized Search. In fact, it's already here - more likely than not you're already seeing personalized results when you search in Google.

Google has continually added to their impressive líst of free services. To name a handful:

* GMail
* Google Analytics
* Google Reader
* FeedBurner
* Google Desktop
* Google Chrome
* Google Toolbar
* etc.

Every one of the above services sends usage data back to Google. Publicly, Google states that this data is "anonymous" and they don't attach personal information to it. Where legal issues are concerned, we have no reason to suspect they are doing otherwise. However, we know for certain that Google is using personal search history to skew search results that individuals get when logged-in to their Google account - they are quite clear on that point.
So What does Personalized Search Mean for You and Your Website?

1. You can no longer assume that rankings as you see them are global. Anyone logged in while they search is potentially seeing a different set of results for the same keyword. You can log out of your Google account to search or turn off personalized results, but it won't do much good since every other user is potentially searching with personalization.

2. If Google is incorporating usage data from other sources such as the Google Toolbar, Google Chrome and Google Analytics, it means that the user experience is going to play a heavier role in SEO. Keep this in mind: for Google, the user experience is everything. Doesn't it then make sense for them to incorporate available usage data when ranking websites?

3. With these new data sources, Google could potentially be scaling back the emphasis on inbound links in their ranking algorithm. Links to this point have been central for Google rankings. With their market share continually improving and the unparalleled usage data that affords them we can reasonably expect that they'll be putting more emphasis on these metrics in the future.

4. Expected traffic estimates based on rankings just became difficult if not impossible to achieve. In the past, traffic could be reasonably estimated by multiplying the available search usage for a given keyword by the known traffic percentage of a given position. The 1st position, for example, receíved some 48% of traffic for a keyword according to leaked AOL data from a few years back. For a keyword receiving 100 searches per month, you could reasonably estimate 48 visits per month based on a #1 ranking for that keyword. SEO companies used that data to take some of the guesswork out of their campaigns. With personalized search these estimates are going to become far less accurate if not completely unreliable.

So What does Personalized Search Mean for You and Your Website?

1. Overall, this means you need to keep your eyes OFF the search engine rankings to a large degree. Does a #1 position for your Google account mean you could be somewhere back on page 5 for someone else? Probably not. But the point is, from here on out we can't be sure without extensive testing. Rankings have haven't ever meant much - they've always been a means to an end, the end being quality traffic and ultimately more sales, attention or whatever your website goal may be. Now, more than ever, high-quality traffic should be your focus.

Personalized search isn't exactly a new concept - it's been discussed for at least a couple of years now. But we're seeing it receive heavier emphasis lately, and the buzz is on that Google is going to change the game again soon. Like it or not, we're likely going to have to let go of rankings as a metric for success.

We may be better off.

Google Adsense Tips: Free directories list

Google Adsense Tips: Free directories list

Some Useful Ideas For Getting Traffic by Great SEO

Putting up a company would of course require a lot of things, to get straight to the point, you need a capital. To make money requires money as well. But of course, with the versatility the internet offers, there are many ways you could find that could help optimize the potential of your site or business in generating traffic.

While there are ways to jumpstart your traffic flows, many sites don’t have the resources that others have to generate more traffic for your site. Well, you don’t have to spend a cent; all you need is the proper mindset and a lot of eagerness. You also must have the drive and perseverance to do hard work and research to generate more traffic for your site.

How great it is to have more traffic for your site without spending a single cent. Now it’s a sure thing that many sites have articles that offer tips and guidelines in how to generate traffic using only free methods. Because it is possible, you don’t need to speed a single cent, it may take time, to say honestly, I’m not going to beat around the bush with you. You get better chances by paying for your advertisements, but at least you get a fighting chance with some of these free methods I’m about to tell you.

With online communities and forums you can build a reputation for your company. Show them what you are made of and wow them with your range of expertise about the subject, with that you can build a reputation and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

Take full advantage of online forums and other online communities. The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the specific area that you are looking for. You can discuss about lots of things about the niche that you represent or offer. Another great advantage is that you know what you are getting into and you will be prepared.

You can also make use of newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your products and interesting and entertaining articles. If you make it really interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who signs up for your newsletter, the more people there will be that will go to your site increasing your traffic.

Another great idea is trading links with other websites. You don’t have to spend a thing. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will benefit both sites. Every traffic that goes to the site could potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well. This works well especially when both sites feature the same niche.

Write articles that could pique the attention of people that have interest in your product. Try writing articles that will provide tips and guides to other aficionados. Writing articles that provide good service and knowledge to other people would provide the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.

Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated. Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.

Write good content for your site. Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that a content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your on but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining as well as informational. It should provide certain requirements as well as great quality.
Generally, internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching in aiding their search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it "ranks," the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

I’ve heard this question over and over again from many friends. How do I control the appearance of my site info on Google SERPS. Many think that it is not possible to, but in fact it is very simple, provided you understand how Google sees it.........

Googe search result anatomy

1. The Page Title
In the above figure, marked 1 is the page title. As you may have guessed already the page title is the data that is pulled from your title information in the head section of your page. This is the data given in the

tags.

2. The description or the text seen right below the title (Snippets)
This information (numbered 2 in the figure) is normally seen as a text in around 25 words. This information is taken from three sources.
(i) The meta description <meta name=”description” content”what you want to appear beneath the page title in SERPS”>

(ii)The DMOZ open directory - If the site is listed in DMOZ, the description is picked from there.
(iii)When the information is not available from the above two places, google searches for contextual content from your sites copy and picks up relevant information from either a single paragraph or one or more sentences from all over the page.
One thing to note here is the it is approximately 160 characters long, so if you would like to write an attractive meta description that would prove as an ad-copy and more visitors would be prompted to click on your URL. Make it attractive as well as relevant.

3.URL
Of course, this is taken from the sites web url. It also takes into consideration your preference settings in the webmasters account. If you had preferred it as http://yourdomain without the www, it would show that way in the SERPs.This is the page Google will take you to when clicked.

4.Page size
Just next to the URL there is a tiny text showing the file size of the document you will be directed to when clicked.

5.Cache
Right next to the page size,a blue link is shown that will take you to the cached version of the website. The cached version is simply the copy of the webpage google saved when it last visited your website. If it had visited your site last week, then you’ll have the page from last week.

6.Similar pages
This link will take you to other similar pages to the one that is listed above.

7.Note this
This link will help you to use the Google notebook tool. You can save off the current link for reference later on the notebook. Just a quick one for noting down things.

8. Plus box and Stock info
If the website or the comany is listed at the stock exchange, google will display it’s shortcode, and if you click on it a small menu will be displayed showing the graph of how the company did at the stock exchange for the last few months.

9.Sitelinks
The site links are very interesting. Many people wonder why only a few sites(popular ones) have the site links shown while others does not. I know for a fact that Google does not take money from webmasters for displaying it. Because the company that I’m working for right now has sitelinks but we did not pay Google to show it, it happened automatically. I’ve discussed about sitelinks here, you may want to check out.

10.More results
This link will take you to more pages from the site. In the example, it will show the next few inside pages from the starbucks website, apart form the ones those are shown in the sitelinks.

Bonus

A few things worth mentioning here. Google sometimes shows maps of the office location etc of the company in it’s search results. This is triggered when the companies physical address is given in a very evident place in the page. Again like the sitelinks this is triggered only for websites with great traffic and user interaction.

Sometimes, near the cache link Google will show when they crawled the website last. Ex: 12 hours earlier. This happens only for fresh results. I believe there is a threshold value for the time so any searches made within that time will be shown the freshness of the Google crawl.

So that basically rounds up the basic anatomy of a Google search result and how we can SEO details on our website to control how the information appears on Google SERPs.

Hope you enjoyed it.
